During the Driving World Championships of August 1999 in Kecskemet (HUN) Max E. Ammann was asked by the FEI Driving Committee to create and to preside an ad hoc committee which should look into the future of the international Driving sport.

This Committee, the “Driving Think Tank” had, in early 2000, several meetings. Its findings were presented during the Driving World Championships of 2000 in Wolfsburg (GER).

The Driving Think Tank evaluated the future of the Driving sport in relation to communication, marketing and promotion. The proposals concerned a shortening of the outdoor events by eliminating the roads and tracks and the creation of an indoor World Cup for Four-in-Hand drivers. 

The leading horse show in the world, Aachen (GER), was immediately interested in the shortening proposals of the Think Tank. After holding test events with reduced demands, the changes were adapted in the rules.

The idea of an indoor World Cup was especially welcomed by the active drivers. In April 2001, at the indoor show in the Scandinavium arena in Gothenburg (SWE), a successful test event was held, with all five still active World Champions competing. In October 2001 the first season of the Driving World Cup began. Max E. Ammann was until 2005 World Cup Director and chairman of all meetings.

Max E. Ammann was, with network4events (former Editions Hippiques) responsible for the rules and regulations, the relations to the organisers and the drivers and the media and public relations. network4events (former Editions Hippiques) published an annual media guide.
